Championship Show 2003

THE SOUTHERN IRISH TERRIER SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

OCTOBER 4TH 2003 - JUDGE MISS ANGLIA GOODARD

It was an honour to judge at this lovely venue.  Thanks to my able stewards who kept the ring in such good order.

There were a fair number of absentees in the dog classes, but the bitches certainly made up for it with only three absent, making the average for the whole show 75% present!

Many very nice specimens were shown far too fat and had to pay the price.  Some nails needed attention as did teeth, and one or two of the dogs coats were a very strange colour!  I found two suspect mouths, but all feet were clean.  As expected temperament was very good, and I was delighted with my winners.

Junior Dog (3)
1st  Lovelace's JOSAKA BOLD AS BRASS, very nice head-piece with dark expressive eyes.  Pleasing neck and shoulder.  Straight front legs, tight feet, food coat coming.  Lacking in confidence at present.

Novice Dog (1) (1a)

Post Graduate Dog (3) (3a)

Limit Dog (4)
1st  Averis & Scawthorn's YEWOOD PADDY FREEMAN, well made dog with good muscle tone.  Good head, small dark eyes, real Irish expression.  Pleasing length to back, tail on top.  Moved soundly on straight, strong legs.

Open Dog (4)
1st  Kirch & Gruttner's MYLORD VON DER EMSMÜHLE, very stylish dog with lovely temperament, super head and expression.  Good lay back of shoulder with correct length of back and topline.  Shown in hard condition (many were too soft today).  Used his strong quarters well.  Jacket in very good nick.  DCC
2nd  Seabridge's CH SUJONCLA SANTEE, smaller than 1, built on racy lines.  Liked his head and expression although less facial furnishings would enhance further.  Good legs and feet.  Pleasing quarters.  Sound.  RDCC
3rd  Barker's COCKSURE NORTH SEA STORM, completing a trio of good dogs.  Good length of head, dark eye.  Pleasing neck and shoulder.  Rather narrow all through and going close behind today.

Veteran Dog (1)
1st  Jess MOHER'S MICKEY MULLIGAN. 8 yrs.  Very good body condition.  Harsh jacket.  Pleasing length of back with very good quarters.  Went well.

Special Beginners Bitch (2)
1st  Hurdle's BALIROLYAT DIZZY HEIGHTS, promising.  Nice size.  Liked head, dark eye and expression.  In very good jacket, well put down.  Pleasing all through, needs to lose some weight.  Moved soundly although handler not helping her at all.
2nd  Davidson's CARAC COROFIN, Larger.  Good neck and shoulders, length of back OK.  Needs new jacket.  Very lively, so difficult to assess movement.
Both of these exhibits and handlers would benefit from ring training.

Minor Puppy Bitch (2)
1st  Smith's SAREDON A ROSE FOR A ROSE, very promising although immature at [resent.  Everything just right for age.  Would like to see her again in a years time.  Super.  PB

These two lovely old ladies are litter sister (nearly 13 yrs).  Both looking very well and enjoying their day.  Little separated them as both have kept their many qualities.  1st just had the edge when moving.  A credit to their breeder.
